Prince Louis made his debut at a significant sports event today when he accompanied the Prince and Princess of Wales and his siblings to watch Netball at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The family of five sat together in a crowded stadium to witness the semi-final match between Australia and Jamaica, with the children seated between the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Kensington Palace revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, their titles in Scotland, would be present at the penultimate day of the “friendly games.” The public appearance of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Louis, however, was kept confidential, marking their first public appearance in Scotland.
Known for his lively demeanor and candid expressions, Louis often attends royal events like Christmas and Easter services, as well as Trooping the Colour. Despite this, he has only been seen at one public engagement to date, which was during the King’s Coronation festivities in May 2023 when he participated in a volunteering initiative.
Louis’s attendance at the Commonwealth Games today is his first time at a major sporting event, unlike his older siblings who frequently accompany their parents to football and tennis matches. Before the games, the future King conversed with five Team Wales athletes at the London Welsh School in Hanwell. The royal couple also intended to meet athletes supported by SportsAid and emerging talents from the Team England Futures project.
SportsAid has played a key role in nurturing the early talents of sports stars like Sir Chris Hoy, Ellie Simmonds, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Tom Daley. The Commonwealth Games, known as “the friendly games,” commenced on July 23, with notable figures like the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal attending various sporting events.
