In the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens, Greece, a homeless man made a grim discovery when he found the body of a Scottish woman inside a discarded suitcase at an abandoned building on Evelpidon Street. The 38-year-old woman, whose identity remains unknown, had been deceased for about eight days.
Authorities reported no apparent signs of struggle or visible injuries on the body. The woman, approximately 5ft 4in tall with red hair tied in a bun, was dressed in a T-shirt and black shorts bearing a French university emblem.
A forensic autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. Greek authorities have enlisted the help of Interpol and US investigators in the ongoing investigation.
DNA testing conducted by Interpol revealed that the deceased woman was of British nationality. She had traveled to Greece from the US via Cyprus on June 29. Police are now reaching out to individuals who may have interacted with the woman before her death to piece together her final movements.
As of now, no suspects have been identified in connection with the case. Police Scotland is cooperating with Greek authorities and providing support to the woman’s family in Scotland. The UK Foreign Office has been contacted for a statement on the matter.
