A tragic incident resulted in the death of a young girl who sustained severe injuries in a car accident that also claimed the life of her mother. The girl, identified as nine-year-old Irena (Ira) Mereacre, had been hospitalized since the incident in County Cavan, Ireland. Her mother, Nell Raven, lost her life in the crash on Friday, with Irena succumbing to her injuries on Tuesday.
The collision, involving their car and a flatbed van, occurred near the village of Shercock around 4:30 pm on Friday, as reported by the Irish Mirror. Ms. Raven, a 53-year-old writer and journalist who had recently become an Irish citizen, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her daughter was critically injured and taken to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin, where she passed away days later.
Authorities, including the Gardai (Irish police), are investigating the fatal road traffic collision that took place on the R162 at Corclare, Shercock, Co. Cavan. They have appealed for witnesses who may have information about the crash. Anyone who was in the area between 4:15 pm and 5:00 pm on the day of the incident and has camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, is urged to provide it to the investigating Gardai.
