“Woman’s Death Ruled Homicide in Houston Cottage Tragedy”

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman found in a secluded cottage as a homicide, while the passing of a man at the same location is currently labeled as “unexplained.”

The bodies of 35-year-old Stacy Mair and a 43-year-old man were located by emergency responders on Corsliehill Road in Houston, Johnstone on the morning of Monday, July 27, following a report of concern for their well-being.

Initially, Police Scotland indicated that the circumstances surrounding the deaths were unclear, but they have now stated that Stacy’s death is being treated as a murder. Further investigations, including a post-mortem examination, will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland mentioned, “The death of 35-year-old Stacy Mair in Houston is being treated as a murder. We were alerted around 7.50am on Monday, July 27, 2026, regarding a concern for an individual in the Corsliehill Road vicinity of Houston.”

“Upon arrival, emergency services discovered the deceased individuals nearby. Following a post-mortem examination, the death of Stacy Mair is now considered a homicide.”

“The death of the 43-year-old man remains unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted in due time. Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, along with local officers, are actively investigating to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case.”

“Currently, there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of anyone else or any potential risk to the public.”

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young from the Major Investigation Team expressed, “Our sympathies go out to the affected families during this tragic incident. They are understandably distraught, and we are providing them with the necessary support through specialized officers during this challenging period.”

Chief Inspector Iain Farmer added, “This incident has deeply affected the families involved and the broader local community. We appreciate the assistance received as we conduct essential inquiries to provide the families and local residents with the answers they seek.”

Images captured at the scene by reporters depict numerous police vehicles stationed outside a property and on a nearby road in Houston. Law enforcement personnel can be seen near the cottage, with vans also positioned in an adjacent field and officers searching the nearby woodland.

The residence is situated along the main road, with a similar property located a short distance away.

Corsliehill Road is a narrow rural lane surrounded by farmland and a few isolated properties, experiencing minimal traffic flow. Reports indicate a significant emergency response in the area, with a police helicopter present on the day of the incident.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed receiving a call at 8.33am and dispatching four special operations response teams, two ambulances, and a critical care team to the scene. A spokesperson from the Scottish Ambulance Service stated, “We received a call at 08.33 to attend an incident on Barochan Road, Houston, Johnstone. Four special operations response teams (SORT), two ambulances, and one critical care team were dispatched to the scene.”
