Police are currently investigating allegations by Reform UK against the Green Party leader for allegedly encouraging violence through a social media post. The contentious image, which has since been removed from Zack Polanski’s account, depicted a man in a black T-shirt with the words “We’re only making plans for Nigel” alongside a guillotine.
In response to the backlash, senior minister Pat McFadden emphasized the importance of politicians acting responsibly, particularly in light of recent tragic events involving former politicians. He stressed the need for caution in online interactions and suggested that any potential legal action should be left to law enforcement.
Nigel Farage criticized Polanski for the post, expressing concerns about its potentially inflammatory nature. Reform UK’s spokesperson for home affairs, Zia Yusuf, accused Polanski of promoting violence and urged the police to treat the matter seriously.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they are looking into the issue and taking it seriously. The Green Party clarified that Polanski disapproves of the T-shirt image and claimed that he had inadvertently accepted a tag in a post containing multiple images without fully understanding its content.
Amidst the controversy, the Green Party spokesperson called for civility in public discourse and discouraged actions that could further divide society.
