Labour has surpassed Reform in two recent major polls while Nigel Farage is engaged in a peculiar dispute with a waste bin over the summer.
According to data from Survation, Labour has taken the lead over Mr. Farage’s party for the first time in over a year. The survey indicates a surge for Labour, securing 26% of the vote share compared to Reform’s 24%.
This development follows a recent survey by More In Common showing Labour ahead by four percentage points, with 28% against Reform’s 24%. Meanwhile, Mr. Farage is facing challenges, including financial allegations against him and his party, as he contends with a satirical candidate named Count Binface in a by-election in Clacton.
Additionally, polling from YouGov and Sky News reveals that Labour and Reform are now tied at 22%, marking the first time since April of last year. Notably, Reform’s ambitions of winning the Greater Manchester mayoral election seem to be fading, with Labour’s Bev Craig leading at 39% compared to Reform’s 19%.
Mr. Farage is under scrutiny for accepting an undisclosed £5 million ‘gift’ from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, raising questions about his financial affairs. Despite facing an ongoing investigation, he initiated a by-election for his Clacton seat, expected to incur significant costs to taxpayers.
The investigation may resume if Mr. Farage emerges victorious against Binface next month. In a head-to-head comparison by YouGov, a majority of Britons favor Mr. Burnham over the Reform leader for the role of Prime Minister.
While Mr. Farage has been relatively quiet recently compared to his active media presence last summer, he continues to face backlash and accusations of diverting attention from pressing issues. Binface, on the other hand, unveiled his manifesto, promising not to accept large gifts from billionaires and presenting various quirky policy proposals if elected into power.
