This meeting marks their first interaction since the onset of tensions with Iran in February, with a notable point of contention being Netanyahu’s opposition to Turkey acquiring American-manufactured F-35 fighter jets.
The forthcoming discussion holds significance as there seems to be a growing disparity between U.S. and Israeli objectives. Initially, there was an agreement between the Americans and Iran for a ceasefire, but Netanyahu later appeared to have achieved his desired outcomes independently. Although the ceasefire eventually collapsed, a temporary lull in hostilities followed nearly two weeks of mutual airstrikes.
Trump has emphasized that the recent talks were initiated by Iranian officials themselves, citing the relentless pressure exerted by the U.S. as the reason for direct communication. Regarding the potential sale of F-35 jets to Turkey, a nation not aligned with Israel’s interests, Trump has not dismissed the idea.
