During a dramatic 45-minute pursuit in Salford, a driver reached speeds of 100mph while attempting to evade police. Greater Manchester Police shared video footage of the incident, which unfolded at 10:30 am as officers trailed a Nissan Qashqai. The car recklessly navigated 30mph roads, mounted kerbs, and drove on the wrong side of the road, endangering oncoming traffic.
The suspect, displaying dangerous and erratic driving at high speeds, refused to stop for authorities, prompting the pursuit. Accompanied by a helicopter and 10 police vehicles, the Nissan raced through Salford, traversed the East Lancashire Road, defied traffic rules, and even ventured through an underground supermarket car park.
The chase came to an end when police successfully used a stinger to immobilize the vehicle. Subsequently, a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and failure to stop. He is currently detained for further questioning.
Following the collision between the suspect’s car and another vehicle, a woman sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. Additionally, an officer suffered a hand injury while deploying the stinger. Police Sergeant Neil Molloy of the Specialist Operations Team’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit emphasized the extreme danger posed by such driving behaviors and commended the swift and professional actions of the officers in resolving the situation safely.
The official statement from GMP highlighted the high-speed pursuit of the Nissan Qashqai, which endangered public safety and led to the arrest of the driver for multiple offenses. Helicopters and multiple police units were deployed to apprehend the suspect, who engaged in reckless driving across Salford, including driving against traffic and through a busy underground car park. The pursuit concluded with the successful deployment of a stinger, resulting in the driver’s arrest. An officer also required medical attention for a hand injury sustained during the operation.
