A prominent pub chain in the UK has revealed plans to shut down all 106 of its establishments in the upcoming weeks. Beefeater, renowned for its 30-day aged steaks and diverse grills, has officially declared its exit from the pub-restaurant sector on September 10.
The closures form part of Whitbread’s extensive restructuring initiative aimed at saving £250 million, which includes the shutdown of its remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre venues, putting approximately 3,800 jobs in jeopardy.
Patrons were informed about the closures through a letter addressed to Beefeater reward club members, as reported by the Southend Echo. The communication stated, “We have recently announced changes to our operations, resulting in the closure of our Branded Restaurants. This means that on Thursday, September 10, 2026, your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will cease operations.”
Dominic Paul, the CEO of Whitbread, cited “significant cost escalations” as the driving force behind the company’s restructuring. A company spokesperson mentioned the intention to retain a considerable number of affected employees and explore options to redeploy as many impacted colleagues as feasible, as per The Sun.
Closure dates for Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block establishments are pending confirmation.
