A woman is devastated after discovering that a section of her parents’ gravestone was stolen, presumably for its valuable granite. Lynne Brown, while visiting her parents at Lambhill Cemetery in Glasgow on what would have been her mother’s 85th birthday, found that three large pieces of granite kerbing surrounding the grave had been removed.
The incident left Lynne in a mix of emotions, ranging from sadness to anger, as she described the theft as a despicable act towards her parents’ resting place. She suspected that the thieves must have spent considerable time and effort removing the large granite pieces, which are sought after for their durability and high resale value on the black market.
After reporting the theft to the cemetery staff and Police Scotland, inquiries were launched into the incident. Despite efforts to seek justice and have the stolen granite returned, Lynne expressed frustration at the lack of progress in the investigation and the uncertainty of whether replacing the kerbing would prevent future theft.
Lynne emphasized the sentimental value of the gravestone, which had been renewed in 2017 after her mother’s passing due to Alzheimer’s disease. She recalled the emotional significance of the unique headstone and kerbing, which symbolized the family’s love and respect for their parents.
Both the Glasgow City Council and the police have been involved in addressing the theft, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. The council expressed sympathy for Lynne’s distress and assured support for the investigation into the stolen granite.
