A teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed due to legal reasons, has been absolved of attempted murder charges after assaulting a teacher by stabbing her in the head.
The 16-year-old was convicted by a jury for causing intentional injuries to Vicki Williams at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire back in February. The incident unfolded when the student, then 15, requested the teacher to review his school assignments before the altercation occurred.
During the trial, the defendant claimed that Mrs. Williams noticed the knife in his bag and attempted to seize it, leading to an unintended injury during their confrontation.
Following deliberations, the jury rendered a verdict of guilty for causing severe bodily harm with intent but acquitted the defendant of attempted murder charges.
The courtroom accounts detailed the sequence of events where the student approached the teacher’s desk, subsequently revealing a large kitchen knife and striking her in the head. A struggle ensued as Mrs. Williams tried to disarm him before he fled from the school premises.
Mrs. Williams was treated at a local hospital for a scalp wound, back scratches, and minor hand cuts resulting from the assault. The defense argued that the student brought the knife to school merely to display it to his peers.
The sentencing for the teenager is scheduled for September 3 at Swansea Crown Court after the jury’s majority decision to convict him of causing intentional harm following over four hours of deliberation.
