Moldovan Family Tragically Killed in Greece Car Crash

A tragic incident occurred where a family from Moldova lost their lives in a car accident while on holiday in Greece. The parents, Lucia Sîrbu, 28, and Constantin Sîrbu, 35, along with their six-month-old baby, died after their vehicle collided head-on with a lorry tanker. Their seven-year-old daughter survived but sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Thessaloniki.

The family, who resided in Strășeni, Moldova, was en route to a beach in Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula when the fatal crash took place. Lucia and the baby passed away at the scene, while Constantin was extracted from the wreckage and transported to a hospital in Polygyros, where he succumbed to his injuries later on.

Local authorities have initiated a donation appeal to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased family members. The Mayor of Straseni, Valentina Casian, urged the community to provide support during this distressing time. The surviving daughter is undergoing treatment in Greece, and efforts are being made to bring back the bodies of the deceased to Moldova.

The Greek authorities are conducting an investigation into the collision, which left the lorry driver unharmed. Emergency responders arrived at the crash site following the incident, which occurred on July 15, requiring specialized equipment to extract the victims from the vehicle.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova confirmed the involvement of four Moldovan nationals in the accident and assured that consular assistance is being provided to the affected family. The Embassy of Moldova in Athens is closely coordinating with Greek authorities to monitor the situation and facilitate the repatriation process.
