A courageous woman used her cane to rescue a young child from oncoming traffic as he dashed towards moving vehicles. The incident was captured on dashcam video, showing Rebecca Cooper’s quick actions in preventing a potential accident in the southwest area of Melbourne.
Cooper, who was en route to purchase a lottery ticket on Morris Road in Hoppers Crossing, spotted the child running around a corner. Despite her struggles with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Crohn’s disease, which limited her mobility, she managed to react promptly using her walking stick to safely stop the child and pull him out of harm’s way.
In an interview with 7News, Cooper described the child’s sudden sprint towards danger and how she utilized her cane to avert a potential tragedy. She expressed gratitude for having her walking stick at that moment, emphasizing its unexpected usefulness.
Following the incident, the child’s mother arrived and was reunited with her son, as Cooper recounted the chaotic events that unfolded. The mother, overwhelmed with relief, did not have the chance to express her gratitude towards Cooper for rescuing her child.
Reflecting on the intense experience, Cooper acknowledged the critical role her walking stick played in averting a dangerous situation and ultimately ensuring the child’s safety.
