“Teen’s Family Expresses Disappointment in Sentencing”

The family of Henry Nowak, a murdered teenager, has released a statement following the imprisonment of Vickrum Digwa’s mother for removing the knife used in the killing from the crime scene. Kiran Kaur, residing on St Denys Road in Southampton, was sentenced to three years in jail at Southampton Crown Court today for aiding an offender by taking the weapon to their family home on December 3, 2025, the night of the incident.

The 53-year-old, who has been in custody for over seven months since her arrest, was found guilty by a jury in May. Despite the sentencing decision, Henry’s family expressed ongoing disappointment. They emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for Henry and urged for a thorough investigation into the events of last December.

Vickrum Digwa, aged 23, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of Henry, a finance student at the University of Southampton. Digwa falsely alleged that Henry had racially abused him. The court learned that the knife, identified as the murder weapon through CCTV analysis, was recovered approximately a week after the tragic incident.

During the sentencing, Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC highlighted Kaur’s pivotal role in removing the murder weapon, which impeded the police investigation. Judge William Mousley KC criticized Kaur for her actions, stating that a responsible parent would have confronted their son and discouraged such behavior. Kaur’s defense attorney, Mark Watson, argued that her actions were impulsive rather than premeditated, emphasizing her positive character before the incident.

Kaur, supported by a Punjabi interpreter, showed emotion in court during her mitigation. A full inquiry into Henry’s death is scheduled to take place in Winchester next year.
