Tragic Double Murder-Suicide in Northern Ireland

An eight-year-old girl, along with two other family members, has been found deceased in a suspected case of double murder-suicide in Northern Ireland.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported that the bodies of a man, a woman, and a young girl were discovered at a residence on Old Cullybackey Road in Ballymena. Superintendent William Calderwood, the Mid & East Antrim District Commander, confirmed that the incident is being treated as a “double murder followed by a sudden death.”

Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 9 am where they found the bodies of a 41-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and an eight-year-old girl inside the house. The PSNI has stated that there is no need to seek any other individuals in connection with the deaths and assured the public that there is no ongoing danger.

Superintendent Calderwood expressed condolences to the family and friends affected by the tragic event, emphasizing the need for privacy and respect during this difficult time. Specialist officers are assisting the families of the deceased, and the authorities are in contact with the Polish Consulate to provide necessary support.

Pending post-mortem examinations, the authorities are keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding the incident but are leaning towards the theory of a double murder-suicide. Consequently, there is currently no active search for additional suspects related to the deaths.

Superintendent Calderwood assured the public that there is no immediate threat to safety, though an increased police presence can be expected in the area as the investigation progresses. The community has been deeply impacted by the event, and local representatives are being engaged as the inquiry advances.

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information, CCTV footage, or dash-cam recordings to come forward to aid in the investigation. Tips can be provided by contacting the police on 101 with reference number 482 13/07/26 or by filling out a witness appeal form on the PSNI website.
