A tragic incident unfolded at a GP surgery where a mother collapsed and passed away after enduring a wait for an appointment, as revealed in an inquest. Jaqueline Watkins, aged 66, had been feeling unwell at home for days before reaching out to her GP practice for medical attention. Despite being granted an appointment later in the week, she collapsed while seated in the clinic’s waiting area.
Medical personnel at Llanyravon Surgery near Cwmbran, South Wales, made efforts to revive Ms. Watkins but she was pronounced dead. The inquest at Gwent Coroners’ Court highlighted that she had contacted the surgery earlier in the week and the earliest slot available was on Thursday afternoon. Ms. Watkins, a dog enthusiast residing in Llanyravon, collapsed while awaiting her appointment, prompting her family to express concerns about potential lapses in her care that require scrutiny.
Following a post-mortem examination that did not disclose a specific cause of death, Ms. Watkins’ family articulated their lingering uncertainties regarding the advice and care provided. The area coroner for Gwent, Rose Farmer, announced that a full inquest is scheduled for March next year. In a heartfelt online tribute, Ms. Watkins was remembered as a “lovely lady” by her daughter Donna, who emphasized the profound impact of her unexpected passing on the family.
The hearing was adjourned to facilitate further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
