“Three Men Jailed for £1M Weight Loss Drug Heist”

Three individuals have been sentenced to prison following the theft of nearly £1 million worth of weight loss medications from a healthcare distribution center in St Albans.

The theft, which occurred on January 24 at a facility on Handley Page Way, involved the stolen goods amounting to £944,544.89 in value, specifically 79 boxes of Mounjaro.

Mark Harding, aged 55, Peter Costello, aged 44, and Robert Townsend, aged 59, each received a five-year and three-month prison term at St Albans Crown Court after admitting to the burglary.

Reports indicate that Harding and Costello initially broke into the premises, disabled internal cameras, and made off with multiple boxes of the weight loss product from a refrigerated storage area. They later returned with Townsend, stealing over 70 additional boxes of Mounjaro.

The trio’s identities were established through phone records, CCTV footage, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. Harding’s involvement was further confirmed by distinctive clothing observed on CCTV before and during the burglary.

Law enforcement arrested the perpetrators on February 11, discovering over £60,000 in cash concealed among picnic baskets and extractor fans at the residences of Harding and Townsend.

Additionally, Harding and Townsend were handed concurrent nine-month prison sentences for possessing criminal proceeds.

Detective Sergeant Will Daglish expressed satisfaction with the guilty pleas, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the potential health risks associated with mishandling weight loss drugs.

Sophia Malik, a lawyer from the Crown Prosecution Service, described the burglary as a meticulously planned operation involving high-value pharmaceutical items. She highlighted the extensive efforts taken by the defendants to avoid detection, which were ultimately unsuccessful due to the substantial evidence collected by authorities.

All three individuals admitted their roles in the crime, leading to their imprisonment as per the prosecution’s case strength and law enforcement’s thorough investigation.
