Donald Trump has announced that he no longer believes the ceasefire agreement with Iran is valid. The United States conducted strikes against Iran following the withdrawal of a license permitting the sale of Iranian oil. Trump, speaking at a NATO summit in Turkey, referred to Iran as “scum” and expressed his disinterest in further negotiations with them.
This move led to a 5.7% increase in Brent crude oil prices, reaching over $78 per barrel. Additionally, US benchmark crude surged by 5.8% to $74.55 per barrel. Trump also criticized Spain, labeling it a “terrible partner” for its lack of support in the conflict with Iran and resistance to increasing NATO spending.
The escalation in tensions between the US and Iran resulted in a rise in oil prices and a decline in stocks. Trump reiterated his stance on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, calling the regime “evil people.” Despite declaring the ceasefire over, he mentioned the possibility of continuing negotiations, although he doubted their effectiveness.
The recent attacks and counterattacks between the US and Iran have raised concerns about the stability of the region. The US military targeted Iranian assets in response to alleged attacks on ships, leading to heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation remains precarious as both sides engage in military actions that could jeopardize any potential peace agreements.
