A man named Jamie Varley, who is currently serving a whole-life order for the murder and sexual abuse of his 13-month-old adopted son, Preston Davey, was reported to the police by a former neighbor. The neighbor stated that Varley threw lit cigarettes at her children’s toys in an attempt to set them on fire.
Varley, 37, was entrusted with the care of Preston when he was just nine months old, but instead subjected him to severe physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Preston tragically passed away on July 27, 2023, after enduring two sexual assaults by Varley on that fateful day.
Months after Varley’s conviction, the neighbor revealed the distressing incidents she faced while living next to him. She described Varley’s intimidating behavior, including verbally abusing her and attempting to set fire to her children’s toys with lit cigarettes. She expressed concern for her children’s safety and criticized the lack of action taken despite reporting Varley to the authorities.
The neighbor’s account sheds light on Varley’s troubling behavior prior to the tragic events involving Preston. It was reported that Varley sustained an injury during the Covid lockdown while allegedly spying on a suspected unfaithful partner.
Following Varley’s sentencing at Preston Crown Court, he was added to the list of Britain’s most dangerous offenders serving life imprisonment. Varley now shares this fate with notorious criminals like Wayne Couzens, Levi Bellfield, and Jeremy Bamber.
Preston Davey, born to convicted murderer Sarah Davey, was taken into care shortly after his birth in June 2022. Varley and his partner were approved as adoptive parents in January 2023, leading to Preston’s move to their home where he suffered escalating abuse until his untimely death.
The tragic events surrounding Preston’s life and death have sparked outrage and highlighted the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts.
