Rishi Sunak was seen using crutches as he made his way to the royal box at Wimbledon today, marking his return almost three months after sustaining an injury while skiing during an Easter holiday with his daughters.
The former prime minister initially shared an image of himself with the walking aids on social media back in April, reassuring friends that he was recovering well and planning to resume his parliamentary duties and constituency responsibilities, although walking his dog would have to wait. It seems his recovery is ongoing.
During the Easter holiday mishap, Mr. Sunak, aged 45, was vacationing with his daughters, Krishna, 15, and Anoushka, 13. Following the incident, he humorously admitted on social media, “Pushed my luck on the slopes this Easter showing off to my daughters. I’m already on the mend and determined to keep up with my meetings and constituency work (although sadly no walks with Nova for a while).”
Expressing gratitude for the well-wishes he received, he mentioned his eagerness to regain full fitness and meet with acquaintances in the near future, emphasizing his intention to enjoy watching sports on television during his recovery period.
Today at Wimbledon, Mr. Sunak accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, enjoyed the matches from the royal box, alongside notable personalities such as Usain Bolt, Seb Coe, Roy Hodgson, Rob Brydon, Dennis Taylor, and Ken Doherty.
Also present in the VIP enclosure were Professor Brian Cox, Joseph Fiennes, and Andrew Marr. Among the other recognized figures spotted around the venue were Dame Denise Lewis, Jeanette Kwakye, and Beth Mead.
Representing Richmond & Northallerton in North Yorkshire as the Member of Parliament, Mr. Sunak had been previously photographed on crutches in early May at Claremont McKenna College in California, where he and his wife delivered the commencement address at the graduation ceremony.
Notably, the former PM has a history of mishaps, as evidenced by a previous incident in January 2022 when he fell while skating at the Natural History Museum, inadvertently pulling his daughter down with him. Onlookers described the scene, noting the brief skating session before the mishap occurred.
