“Security Guard Rescued After Days Trapped in Venezuelan Collapse”

Rescuers successfully extracted a 43-year-old security guard, Hernan Alberto Gil Flores, from a collapsed basement in La Guaira, Venezuela. Gil Flores had been trapped since June 24 in the rubble of the Galerias Playa Grande shopping center. The rescue operation, which lasted several days, brought a glimmer of hope after twin earthquakes devastated the region.

Teams from various countries were on site to witness the emotional moment when Gil Flores was carried on a stretcher, covered in an orange tarp, to a Red Cross ambulance. Despite the challenging conditions, the Costa Rican Red Cross played a crucial role in making contact with Gil Flores and ensuring his survival.

Gil Flores, a night-shift security guard, was protected inside his security cabin when the earthquakes struck, shielding him from the collapsing structure. His wife, Gusbimar Gonzalez, expressed her relief upon learning that he was alive after days of uncertainty.

The rescue effort involved an international team, including Chilean firefighters, US, Portugal, and Mexico specialists, who worked tirelessly to reach Gil Flores. Despite the unstable conditions and aftershocks, rescuers remained determined to bring him to safety.

Throughout the ordeal, Gil Flores was kept hydrated and supported by rescuers, including Maria Paz Campos from Chile, who guided him through the operation. The collapse was triggered by two powerful earthquakes, causing widespread destruction and claiming thousands of lives in northern Venezuela.

The successful rescue of Gil Flores serves as a beacon of hope in the midst of tragedy, showcasing the dedication and collaboration of rescue teams from around the world.
