Boy George Auctions Iconic Wardrobe in LA Transformation Tale

Boy George, known for his extravagant fashion sense, reflects on his transformation over 45 years since the emergence of Culture Club in the UK music scene. Embracing a more serene persona, he has decided to part ways with over 370 items, including flamboyant costumes and accessories, in an auction at Julien’s Auctions in LA on July 14, named Bold Luxury: Boy George Edit.

The auction is anticipated to draw admirers of the iconic singer worldwide, with estimates reaching tens of thousands of dollars for many items. George, aged 65, credits his newfound tranquility to adopting ‘The Three Principles,’ a mindfulness philosophy promoting well-being and present-mindedness.

The auction assortment showcases George’s evolution from a club enthusiast to a style icon, featuring outfits worn in Culture Club album covers, music videos, tours, and TV appearances. Notable items up for auction include a pink Dexter Wong ensemble from the Colour by Numbers album cover, valued at $100,000, and a variety of unique hats by Philip Treacy and John Galliano.

Among the collection are outfits by renowned designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as a purple plaid suit tailored for George’s late mother for a BBC appearance. George, who began his music career at 17, reminisces about his DIY fashion roots, expressing his ongoing passion for creating his own pop culture-inspired attire.

In addition to the auction, Culture Club is scheduled to perform at the Henley Festival on July 8 and embark on a UK tour titled ‘The Singles Tour’ in December. George will also portray King Herod in the West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar and is working on a new adaptation of his musical Taboo, following his successful Broadway stint in Moulin Rouge.

George emphasizes the positive impact of his spiritual journey, remarking on how it has empowered him to approach life with more confidence and authenticity. As he looks forward to his upcoming ventures, he encourages his younger self and others to embrace joy, self-assurance, and the freedom to be oneself.
