Multiple children were taken to the hospital after being found living in appalling conditions in a residence described as extremely disturbing by law enforcement. Four adults face felony child endangerment charges following the discovery of the children in Hamden, Ohio, on June 30.
Authorities disclosed that all 16 children required immediate medical attention, with two of them airlifted to Level One trauma centers due to the severity of their injuries. The Ohio Bureau of Investigation and the local sheriff’s department conducted a search of the premises based on information that triggered the investigation.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson expressed shock at the conditions, stating they were beyond anything he had witnessed before. During a news briefing, he emphasized the unimaginable circumstances in which the children were living.
The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old and comprising both genders, were said to be involved. Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders have been taken into custody, with no arraignment or provision of public defenders as yet.
Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney William Archer announced that the four individuals were charged with second-degree felony child endangerment due to the significant physical harm alleged. While officials did not confirm any familial relationships among the children, they clarified that the case was not connected to human trafficking. The adults were identified as non-local and likely on a traveling route.
The investigation at the property continued on Tuesday, with the suspects scheduled to appear in court today. Wilson assured that justice would be served for the children affected.
