“Atlanta Theme Park Fun Spot America to Close After 4 Decades”

An Atlanta-based theme park, Fun Spot America, is entering its final weeks of operation after nearly four decades in the business. Originally established as Dixieland Fun Park in 1990, the park was taken over by the Fun Spot America Theme Parks group from Orlando in 2017 and is set to close its doors for the last time on August 2.

Featuring 14 major rides, including three high-speed roller coasters and a 40-foot go-kart track, the theme park also offers Georgia’s sole legal bungee-jumping tower and various gentler rides suitable for families and young children.

While the owners have not disclosed the reason behind the closure, aging attractions at theme parks often become financially unsustainable to maintain or update, according to The Street.

Customers who have made bookings for school or group trips beyond the closure date will be contacted directly by the park’s owners. Additionally, any previously purchased gift cards or season passes must be utilized before the shutdown.

Although Fun Spot America in Atlanta will cease operations, the other two locations under the Fun Spot portfolio in Orlando and Kissimmee will remain open.

The future of the current park site and the fate of the rides post-closure remain undisclosed to the public. This closure adds to the growing list of theme parks shutting down across the country.

In a press release, CEO John Arie Jr. expressed the difficulty of the decision, acknowledging the dedication of the Atlanta team and the support from the Fayetteville community in creating a place for families to enjoy together.

Fun Spot America took to Instagram on June 25, urging visitors to make one last memory and enjoy a final ride at the park before it closes its gates.
