A man who traveled to Turkey for dental treatment is experiencing complications and potentially faces a hefty bill of up to £40,000 for necessary repairs. Danny Tomlinson, a 47-year-old wall and floor tiler from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, sought to address his dissatisfaction with his previously “crooked, brown, and stained” teeth.
Initially quoted £3,500 for a full set of crowns following the shaving down of his natural teeth, Danny’s expenses escalated to £3,900 after also opting for a dental implant. However, upon returning home, issues with his teeth began to surface.
Reflecting on his decision, Danny admitted to not conducting any prior research and acting impulsively without considering the potential consequences. Despite initially being content with the cosmetic outcome after his visit to Turkey in December 2020, he soon noticed instability in his lower teeth.
Subsequently, Danny made multiple return trips to the Turkish clinic over the past six years as new problems emerged. Despite ongoing concerns, the clinic’s responses were limited to routine cleanings without addressing the underlying issues adequately.
During his most recent visit to Turkey a month ago, the clinic advised Danny that several teeth were loose, estimating a further cost of £12,500 for additional procedures. A UK dentist had previously warned him that his upper crowns and four lower teeth might require replacement in the future.
Danny now grapples with loose teeth that impair his eating abilities and induce constant anxiety about potential tooth loss. The impending financial burden of requiring implants, estimated at £3,000 per tooth, weighs heavily on him. Danny has decided against seeking further treatment in Turkey and cautions others against pursuing dental work there, emphasizing the importance of thorough research and professional consultation in such matters.
