Brazilian police are investigating the tragic death of a young woman who fell to her demise at a popular bungee jump spot. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, also known as Duda, was thrown off a 130-foot high bridge in Limerira, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Shocking footage captured the moment when the 21-year-old was pushed off the bridge without being properly secured with a rope.
Authorities have disclosed that three individuals, including a 29-year-old woman and two men aged 25 and 27, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Search and seizure warrants have been executed at their residences as part of the ongoing investigation. The police suspect that crucial evidence, particularly the missing camera used by the victim during the jump, might have been tampered with or concealed.
The arrested individuals, who were involved in organizing the bungee jumping activity, remain in custody as further inquiries are being conducted. The police are exploring potential charges of intentional crimes against life and procedural fraud. Efforts are underway to locate the camera used by Maria to reconstruct the events leading to the fatal fall.
In a statement to the media, Maria’s family expressed their profound sorrow over her sudden and untimely passing. They described her as a young woman full of aspirations and plans for the future, including marriage and starting a family. The family thanked the public for their support and the press for shedding light on the tragic incident.
Following the tragedy, authorities have decided to demolish the abandoned bridge due to concerns over unregulated bungee jumping operations using the structure. Demolition work commenced shortly after the incident, signaling the closure of the site where the fatal accident occurred.
