Ubisoft Co-Founder Dies in Tragic Plane Crash

The co-founder of Ubisoft, a prominent gaming company known for titles like Assassin’s Creed, tragically passed away in a plane crash. Claude Guillemot, who was also the deputy managing director overseeing operations at the firm, was flying a Cessna 421 aircraft when the incident occurred in La Baule, Loire-Atlantique, France. The crash, which involved another victim identified as Marc Guillet, a flight instructor, took place on a Friday afternoon. Reports indicate that the light plane went down in a wheat field near the local airfield.

Ubisoft released a statement expressing deep sorrow over Guillemot’s death and extended condolences to his family. The company stated that they would not provide further details at this time. Guillemot, who was a member of the La Baule flying club, was set to participate in an aviation event over the weekend. The fatal crash happened as the Cessna was approaching the La Baule airfield, shortly after taking off in the evening.

Guillemot, along with his four brothers, founded Ubisoft in France in 1986, transforming it into a leading global game developer. Apart from Assassin’s Creed, the company is renowned for creating popular games like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Just Dance. Additionally, Guillemot led Guillemot Corporation, serving as its CEO, a company specializing in interactive entertainment hardware and accessories.
