Iran’s Supreme Leader ridiculed Donald Trump’s eagerness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz while agreeing to a peace deal that favored the Islamic Republic. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. Khamenei highlighted the efforts made by both parties and criticized Trump for using various tactics out of desperation to facilitate the agreement.
The interim deal was signed by Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to end the three-month war. Following this, US Central Command confirmed the cessation of the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, with Vice President JD Vance reporting a significant volume of oil passing through the strait.
Despite the peace deal, the US Navy maintains a presence in the region with a considerable fleet, ensuring compliance with the agreement’s terms. Khamenei expressed initial reservations but ultimately agreed to the deal after receiving assurances from Pezeshkian regarding not succumbing to excessive demands from the American side.
The Trump administration faced criticism from within the Republican party regarding the deal; however, Vance defended the president, urging trust in his decisions. Vance emphasized the importance of explaining the benefits of the agreement to the American people and defended the administration’s negotiation stance.
Under the terms of the agreement, Iran will take immediate steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume oil sales without restrictions. Additionally, Iran is set to receive substantial financial aid for post-war reconstruction, along with the expected lifting of both American and United Nations sanctions imposed on Tehran.
