A tragic incident unfolded as a bungee-jump instructor, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, faced charges following the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, who fell from a 130ft high bridge in Limerira, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Shocking footage captured the moment Maria was taken to the edge of the bridge and thrown off without being properly secured, resulting in her fatal injuries.
Although Maria initially survived the fall, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward. She was laid to rest the next day. Egoroff, along with Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were charged with homicide in connection to Maria’s tragic death. Reports indicated that the employees involved attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended shortly after by a helicopter crew.
Disturbing video footage resurfaced showing Egoroff performing a bungee jump with a child at the same bridge. The clip, shared on Instagram in May 2023, depicted the child clinging to Egoroff before they both jumped off the bridge. Despite claims of the team’s extensive experience and safety record, the fatal incident marked their first fatality during a jump.
Allegations surfaced that the bungee jumping company was operating without proper licensing. An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding Maria’s tragic death. Prior to the fatal incident, Maria had posted a message on Instagram questioning the decision to jump off the bridge.
Following Maria’s untimely death, tributes poured in for the young woman, who aspired to become a physical education teacher. Her mother expressed profound grief on social media, reflecting on the pain of losing her daughter and the privilege of being her mother for 21 years.
As the community mourns the loss of Maria, the investigation into the incident continues, shedding light on the need for stringent safety measures in adventure sports.
