Two teenagers face murder charges following the death of a 21-year-old in a tragic incident at a park. Radwan Shakur, hailing from Wembley, north-west London, was discovered with stab wounds at Central Park in Chelmsford, according to Essex Police. Despite immediate medical attention, Mr. Shakur passed away at the scene.
The police force disclosed that an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, whose identities are protected by law, have been accused of his murder. Romeo Mfinda, residing at Widford Chase, Chelmsford, and the 17-year-old boy, both from Chelmsford, also face charges of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and carrying a knife in a public setting. They were presented before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
During his court appearance, Mfinda only confirmed his personal details, was not asked to enter a plea, and bail was not requested. He has been detained for a future court hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday. The 17-year-old, who appeared separately before magistrates, was remanded in youth detention accommodation until a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court.
In a statement released by the police, Mr. Shakur’s family described him as a beloved individual with a warm personality, cherished by his family and acquaintances. They expressed their deep sorrow, highlighting his bright smile and promising future aspirations.
The authorities reported that initially, three teenagers aged 18, 17, and 14 were arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday evening. Following interrogations, the 18-year-old was released on bail, while the 14-year-old was released pending further investigation. Subsequent investigations over the weekend led to the apprehension of another 18-year-old suspect on Sunday afternoon.
Detective Inspector Lydia George, leading the investigation, emphasized the gravity of the incident in a busy public park, expressing solidarity with Radwan’s family. She urged the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during this distressing period. The investigation continues, with appeals for any additional information from witnesses to aid in the case.
