UK Set for Sunny Weather; Highs of 28C Expected

Recent weather maps display that the UK will experience sunny weather for a brief period. Temperatures are expected to gradually increase this week, reaching highs of 28C by Friday as a high-pressure system moves in from the west. Despite the anticipated warm spell, the Met Office warns of potential thunderstorms towards the end of the week, particularly in parts of the East of England.

Over the past few days, temperatures have been relatively low, with readings of 11.6C in the Shetland Islands and 14.8C in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The South of England experienced drizzly weather on Monday, and more rain is forecasted for the following day, with the heaviest downpours expected in the Southwest of England.

Looking ahead to Friday, the Met Office’s weather map indicates warmer and drier conditions across the UK. Although thunderstorms are a concern for Friday night and Saturday, temperatures are expected to peak at 28C in the East of England and 27C in the Southeast of England.

Meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that temperatures will rise gradually throughout the week, especially in the Southeast of England. The weather pattern is shifting towards warmer conditions, potentially leading to hot weather by the end of the week, accompanied by a risk of thunderstorms.

Although no storm warnings have been issued by the Met Office, rainy weather is likely to disrupt the warmer spell, with showers expected in parts of south Wales and the Southwest of England over the weekend. Even northern England will see temperatures reaching 20C on Friday, with areas like Lincolnshire and Humberside expected to be among the warmest regions.

Following the unsettled weekend weather, warmer conditions are forecasted to return for the remainder of June. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for June 20 to June 29 suggests the potential for very warm and humid weather in parts of south and southeast Britain at the beginning of the period, with a chance of thunderstorms. Overall, a shift towards drier and settled conditions with above-average temperatures is anticipated, although brief wet and windy spells may still occur.

If high pressure systems persist, there is a possibility of hot conditions moving northward alongside a risk of thunderstorms. The weather outlook remains subject to the behavior of the high-pressure systems in place.
