“Fatal Elevator Accident Claims Worker’s Life in Osaka”

A tragic incident occurred at a demolition site in Osaka, Japan, where a worker lost his life after an elevator-related accident. The emergency response was prompted by reports of the elevator falling on the 62-year-old worker, but upon arrival, authorities discovered that a detached counterweight had caused the fatal injury.

The incident took place at the former Sharp Sakai Plant early in the morning as emergency crews rushed to the scene to assist. According to reports, the counterweight, weighing around 10 tonnes, became dislodged and fatally crushed the worker. This weight is typically used to balance the elevator car.

The site was undergoing demolition work at the time of the accident, and it was reported that the workers were dismantling the lift system. The victim, a contractor hired for the demolition project, was not an employee of Sharp, the company that previously operated at the plant.

Despite rescue efforts, the worker succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive. The Sharp Sakai Plant, once a production facility for LCD panels, is currently being demolished for redevelopment purposes.

Fire officials suspect that the chain connecting the lift car to the counterweight may have failed, leading to the tragic incident. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
