In a tragic incident, a 9-year-old girl was mistakenly shot and killed by police who mistook her family’s car for that of jewel robbers in Chakwal, Punjab. Hania Ahmed, along with her parents and brother from Perth, Australia, were visiting relatives when they were confronted by robbers demanding their jewelry. The family complied, handing over items worth around £3,937 before the robbers engaged in a shootout with a police officer and fled on a motorcycle.
Confused by the situation, police opened fire on the family’s car, believing it to be associated with the robbers. The vehicle eventually crashed near the family’s destination, resulting in Hania’s tragic death at the hospital. Her father and brother were treated for injuries, while her mother remained unharmed.
The Pakistani Association confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing shock over the young girl’s death. An investigation is underway, with a Joint Investigation Team set to reveal its findings soon. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing support to the affected Australian family members, offering condolences during this difficult time.
