“Beloved ‘Gentle Giant’ Mourned After Tragic School Passing”

Tributes are pouring in for a beloved figure known as a “gentle giant” who tragically passed away unexpectedly at a primary school.

Wayne Ellis, aged 48, collapsed on the school grounds at Waterwells Primary Academy in Quedgeley around 4 pm on June 4. He had been supervising a tag rugby match when a medical emergency occurred, prompting the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity to respond. Despite efforts to save him, Wayne succumbed at the scene. A crowdfunding campaign was initiated in his honor, swiftly raising over £8,000 within five days.

A close friend of Wayne and his partner Jen, Felicity Tucker, expressed her heartfelt sentiments on a GoFundMe page she created. She lauded Wayne as a “silent hero” known for his selflessness and generosity. Felicity highlighted Wayne’s significant contributions to the Waterwells community, where he dedicated extensive time coaching the tag rugby team and serving as the Chair of the Friends of Waterwells PTA.

Additionally, Wayne played a pivotal role in organizing various school events, showing his love for music through DJing and showcasing his dance moves. Beyond this, he routinely assisted with school activities, supported children on trips, and offered his help wherever needed, embodying kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication.

The fundraising initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on Wayne’s family during this challenging period, with donations intended to cover funeral expenses and provide practical support for Jen and their daughters as they navigate the future. While no sum can replace the void left by Wayne’s passing, the community’s collective efforts seek to ease the family’s strain and demonstrate unwavering support.

Felicity shared personal memories of her 15-year relationship with Wayne and Jenny, noting her role in bringing them together. She described their immediate connection and Wayne’s loving and caring nature, portraying him as a kind-hearted and jovial individual, affectionately dubbed a “gentle giant.”

The GoFundMe campaign has surpassed £9,100 of its £10,000 goal. To contribute or learn more about the fundraiser, visit the page here.
