“Washington-Iran Peace Deal Uncertain Amidst Alleged Leaks”

A recent potential peace settlement involving Washington could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but it appears to heavily favor Iran, especially concerning nuclear matters. Alleged specifics of the provisional deal were disclosed by Iran, triggering an immediate dismissal by US President Donald Trump as “fake news.”

Part of the proposed agreement includes a mere 60-day window for discussions on nuclear issues, which experts criticize as unfeasible for reaching a resolution. Concurrently, while details emerged from Iran, Trump faced a setback after US forces downed two Iranian attack drones.

If the purported document is ratified, Tehran stands to gain significant reparations, sanctions relief, and the release of frozen assets. However, the authenticity of the leaked agreement remains uncertain and may be Iran’s response to Trump’s misleading statements about settlements.

Reportedly, the 14-point draft settlement contains provisions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days and ceasing Iran’s nuclear program. Notably, Iran insists on Lebanon’s inclusion in any peace deal, with a stipulation against US interference in Tehran’s internal affairs. Moreover, Iran’s backing of proxy groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis is presently excluded from the draft terms.

According to Iranian media leaks, the draft includes a substantial reconstruction package granting Tehran $300 billion for city rebuilding. Additionally, $24 billion in frozen Iranian funds is set for release, with half to be paid before resuming talks. Reacting to Iran’s assertions, Trump vehemently disputed the terms, questioning the integrity of the Iranian negotiators.

A security source analyzing the document remarked that if authentic, it represents an unsubstantiated peace deal, portraying Iran’s strategic maneuver against Trump’s public stance on negotiations. The draft proposes sanctions relief, asset unfreezing, reconstruction funding, and US withdrawal from Iran’s borders in exchange for the reopening of the vital Strait of Hormuz. However, critical issues like Iran’s missile program and proxy networks remain untouched, as do existing enriched uranium stockpiles removal.

The proposed agreement signifies a shift for the US from its initial goals on Iranian nuclear and missile infrastructure to settling for securing a minimally stable energy route. Moreover, the 60-day nuclear discussion period is deemed inadequate for achieving a satisfactory resolution.

This development follows Trump’s announcement of a peace deal, which Iran refuted, stating that a final decision on ending the Middle East conflict has not been reached. Tehran’s foreign ministry spokesperson mentioned that while most terms were settled, new US demands and changing positions have hindered finalizing the accord.
