A tragic incident unfolded as young Bobby Bloomfield was hit by a car following a confrontation on private property, as revealed in court.
Today, a 15-year-old teenager, unnamed for legal purposes, and William Lunnon, aged 43, were held in custody on murder charges after appearing in Chelmsford magistrates court. Bobby, a student at Shenfield High School, passed away in a hospital after being found by authorities in Pilgrims Hatch, Essex, on Sunday night, having sustained severe injuries.
According to the prosecutor Rohini Majumdar, the victim and his companions were on private premises when Lunnon approached them and instructed them to depart. Allegedly, the boys fled the scene, but were subsequently pursued by the two accused in a vehicle.
During the court session today, the 15-year-old suspect was attired in a quarter-zip sweater and jeans, speaking only to confirm personal details and acknowledge that the case would be handled in crown court. Lunnon, dressed in a grey prison tracksuit, also confirmed his particulars. Both individuals are scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court for an initial hearing on Friday.
Law enforcement authorities are currently interrogating four additional individuals – two males aged 65 and 54, and two females aged 65 and 45 – all residents of Pilgrims Hatch, who were apprehended on Tuesday and are held on suspicion of obstructing justice.
Essex Police’s Serious Crime Directorate officers are diligently piecing together the sequence of events. Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood stated, “This is an intricate investigation, and we have made substantial headway, including pressing charges and effecting further arrests.
“Our primary focus remains on uncovering the complete facts and providing support to Bobby’s family, who are enduring an unimaginable loss. We urge anyone with relevant information to step forward.
“Even the smallest detail could be pivotal in constructing an accurate narrative of the incident. If you were in the vicinity at the time or possess information that could aid our investigation, please share it through the public portal.”
In a poignant statement issued on Tuesday, Bobby’s family expressed, “Losing a child is a nightmare for any parent. We are living through that nightmare, and words cannot convey our emotions. Bobby brought joy and vitality into our lives, and that loss is irreplaceable.”
Comedian Josh James, Bobby’s cousin, shared a heartfelt tribute online along with pictures of them together. He wrote, “My beloved cousin Bobby. We will always miss and cherish you.” In another post, he added, “Goodbyes are not forever. They do not mark the end. They simply mean I will miss you until we reunite.”
