A courageous teacher at a high school in Manchester was stabbed in the neck while shielding students from a triple stabbing incident. Identified as Maysum Abdullah, 27, he was injured during the incident at Co-op Academy Manchester in Blackley. The school went into lockdown after reports of a student armed with a knife, who was promptly restrained by school staff.
Following new details emerging, counter-terrorism police have taken charge of the investigation, although authorities have clarified that the incident is not considered a terrorist attack. The attack resulted in injuries to three individuals: a 14-year-old girl with a shoulder injury, a 14-year-old boy with ear injuries, and Mr. Abdullah with neck and hand injuries.
All three victims are now recuperating at home with non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by Manchester Evening News. A 14-year-old schoolgirl was arrested for Section 18 assault but was later detained under the Mental Health Act. She has been charged with three counts of attempted murder by Counter Terrorism Policing North West.
Reflecting on the incident, Mr. Abdullah expressed his struggle to process the events. His wife, Saima, thanked the community for their support and acknowledged her husband’s heroism in protecting the students. The Co-Op Academies Trust commended the quick and brave actions of the staff in containing the situation.
