“Explosion at Romania’s Largest Port Sparks Evacuation”

A sea drone suspected to have exploded at the largest port in Romania on the Black Sea coast has led to a significant evacuation operation. The incident occurred at the Constanta port around 10:30 am EEST, with a visible column of smoke rising into the sky as the area was cordoned off.

This explosion follows a recent incident where a drone, confirmed by NATO to be of Russian origin, crashed into a building in GalaÈ›i, Romania, drawing condemnation from international figures including Sir Keir Starmer. Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin stating that the drone’s origin is still undetermined, he has called for Romania to hand over the drone for an impartial investigation.

The Constanta explosion is linked to a green drone equipped with antennas that was intercepted by anti-pollution barriers in the water and later found at a Romanian maritime agency. This event comes after another Russian drone mistakenly hit a residential building in Galati, Romania, causing minor injuries and concerns about the potential spread of conflict beyond Ukraine’s borders.

Emergency protocols were activated in Romania following the Constanta incident, with authorities swiftly responding to the discovery and subsequent explosion of the sea drone. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigative efforts are underway to determine the cause and implications of this alarming event.
