A duo of pals embarked on a spontaneous journey to Italy, spending a mere £120 for the entire day, encompassing airport parking fees and bus fares. Megan Stiles and her close companion, Romany Coppola, jetted off from Stansted Airport on a 6.10am flight bound for Verona, priced at only £38 each for a round trip.
Having parked their vehicle at the airport for £30, the travelers touched down in Verona just after 9am local time. Opting for a budget-friendly £10 bus ticket, they ventured to Lake Garda for unlimited exploration. The morning was filled with sightseeing, souvenir shopping, and basking in the sun in the charming lakeside town.
During lunch, Megan, aged 23, relished an £8 margarita pizza, while Romany, 22, selected a £13 penne arrabbiata. Additional expenses of £20 covered their drinks. After a delightful time at Lake Garda, they hopped on a £6 bus to Verona, spending the afternoon strolling through the historic city before heading back to the airport later that evening.
Expressing her excitement, Megan, hailing from Colchester, Essex, shared, “I’ve taken a few day trips previously and noticed the affordability of a Verona visit; being a pasta and pizza enthusiast, I couldn’t resist.” She further added, “I adore Italy. In total, including souvenirs, my expenses amounted to around £120, significantly cheaper than a trip to London with activities involved.”
Initially planning solely for Verona, the duo’s itinerary expanded upon discovering the proximity of Lake Garda during their flight. This unforeseen addition made the experience even more memorable. Megan remarked, “Exploring two cities in one day was incredibly fun and unique. Not everyone has the opportunity to do so, and I feel fortunate despite being utterly exhausted.”
Their return journey to Stansted was on a 10.50pm flight from Verona, landing just before midnight UK time. Despite the fatigue from a whopping 25,000 steps taken in a single day, Megan affirmed that the trip was undeniably worthwhile. She expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This day trip was exceptional and the best I’ve had. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve already planned a return visit.”
Megan recounted the reactions of friends and family to their whirlwind adventure, noting, “Many thought we were crazy, including fellow passengers on the plane. My family was astounded by the extent of travel I accomplished in just one day. Although the exploration was enriching, after 25,000 steps, I was utterly exhausted on the flight back home.”
