“Drug Kingpin Guilty in Tragic Murder of Joanne Penney”

A notorious criminal leader has been found guilty as the sixth individual convicted in the tragic murder case of Joanne Penney, who was mistakenly killed in a targeted attack. Renaldo Baptiste, a drug kingpin already serving a life sentence, played a role in orchestrating the failed assassination from within his prison confines. The incident took place in Talbot Green near Cardiff, where a group, including a gunman and two accomplices, intended to target a rival gang member.

However, the assailants mistakenly approached Joanne’s residence, a 40-year-old mother of four, and fatally shot her in the chest. Despite her cry for help, Joanne succumbed to her injuries within moments. Following the shooting, the perpetrators swiftly fled the scene. Baptiste, previously convicted of another murder, utilized prison communication channels to coordinate the deadly attack on March 9, 2025, with his criminal associates.

In the subsequent trial related to Joanne’s death, four more individuals, including Molly Ruth Cooper, Laura John, and former footballer Donna James, were found guilty of various charges in connection to the crime. Earlier trials had already resulted in convictions for five other individuals involved in the murder, with sentencing pending for all offenders.

Baptiste, who had previously been sentenced to a minimum of 25 years for a separate murder case, admitted to facilitating drug transactions and being part of an Organized Crime Gang known as Rico. He disclosed his involvement in sourcing drugs for other criminals, including Huntley and Mills-Smith, who were operating in the drug trade in south Wales.

The sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting involved territorial disputes and rivalries among criminal factions. Huntley contacted Baptiste to acquire a firearm and ammunition, intending to send a threatening message to their adversaries. Despite Baptiste’s denial of knowledge regarding the gun procurement, evidence suggested his role in the illicit dealings.

Following the incident, efforts were made to conceal the weapon and ammunition, leading to a chain of events involving the disposal of evidence and attempted cover-ups by the perpetrators. The gun and bullets were eventually discovered buried in Heritage Park, with DNA evidence linking Molly Cooper to the ammunition.

The devastating loss of Joanne deeply impacted her family, who expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy. They remembered Joanne as a cherished daughter, mother, sister, and niece, emphasizing her enduring kindness, strength, and love for her family. The community’s support and condolences were acknowledged by the grieving family.
