Multiple individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two trams in Germany. The incident occurred in the Linden-Süd district of Hanover just before noon on Thursday, prompting a significant emergency response involving firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement.
Both trams were derailed by the impact, with one tram carriage crashing into an elevated platform, causing structural damage. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene after the collision was classified as a ‘MANV 10’ mass casualty event, initiating a large-scale rescue operation.
Despite approximately 20 passengers remaining aboard one of the trams post-accident, authorities confirmed that no one was trapped inside. Firefighters swiftly established temporary exits to facilitate passenger evacuation, while paramedics provided on-site medical treatment to the injured.
A total of 12 individuals sustained injuries in the collision, with seven passengers transported to hospitals in Hanover for further evaluation. Fortunately, both tram drivers emerged from the incident unscathed.
Photographs depicting the aftermath revealed derailed tram carriages strewn along the tracks as emergency responders swarmed the area. The two trams, one traveling towards Wettbergen on line 13 and the other destined for Altwarmbüchen on line 3, collided near the Allerweg stop on Ritter-Brüning-Straße under circumstances that are currently unclear.
Following the accident, Ritter-Brüning-Straße was closed during the rescue operation, and replacement buses were arranged for stranded passengers. An investigation has been initiated by the police to determine the cause of the crash, with approximately 60 emergency personnel and 24 vehicles deployed to the scene.
