A man caused disruption at Manchester Airport during a lengthy standoff with authorities, claiming he was protesting because he was barred from boarding his flight due to an incident where he urinated on himself.
Travellers had to abandon taxis and walk to the departure area as nearby roads became congested during the episode. The drop-off and pick-up zones were closed from midday after reports surfaced of a man on the wrong side of fencing on the upper level of Terminal 2’s car park.
New information reveals that the man broadcasted part of the incident on social media. In the 11-minute video, he explained that he was denied boarding a flight to Jamaica because he had urinated on himself. He stated that his actions caused gridlock at Terminal 2 out of principle.
During the standoff, the man engaged in a conversation with a police officer, expressing his defiance despite facing potential arrest. The man, believed to be in his 40s, was later arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and a public order offense.
The disruption led to significant traffic jams around the airport, with witnesses reporting passengers ditching taxis to reach their flights. The situation was eventually resolved around 4 pm, with Manchester Airport advising travelers to expect delays due to heavy congestion. The airport thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during the incident.
