“Government Tariff Cuts to Lower Food Prices Amid Middle East Crises”

Baked beans, bananas, and olive oil are expected to see price reductions with proposed Government tariff cuts aimed at lowering the cost of essential food items amid rising prices due to Middle East conflicts.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has committed to reducing prices of everyday essentials to alleviate the impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on consumer budgets. A list of more than 100 common goods is set to benefit from targeted tariff reductions, including fresh produce, oils, baked goods, chocolates, sauces, and soft drinks. Additionally, mileage rates will be increased for the first time in 15 years. The proposed changes are open for public consultation until June 24, with the timeline for implementation yet to be determined.

Reeves emphasized the need to address the repercussions of the Iran conflict on the economy, pledging to prioritize affordability for households and businesses. Measures such as freezing fuel duty, raising mileage rates, and temporarily reducing VAT aim to ease financial burdens for consumers.

The proposed tariff cuts will impact a range of products, with the aim of making essential items more affordable for consumers.
