“US to Cut Military Support to NATO, European Allies Surprised”

The United States is set to reduce its military support to NATO significantly, impacting access to American military assets such as warships, fighter jets, drones, and aircraft. This decision, although hinted at during Trump’s second term, has taken European diplomats by surprise in terms of the extent of the cutbacks.

US envoy Alexander Velez-Green has assured the EU that nuclear deterrence support for NATO member states will continue. However, European nations are being urged to swiftly address any gaps in their defense capabilities due to the reduced American contributions.

This move follows a social media outburst by Trump earlier in the year, where he criticized allies for not joining a supposed conflict with Iran and labeled NATO as ineffective without US involvement. The former president accused allies of being hesitant to act against a Nuclear Powered Iran and criticized their reluctance to assist in opening the Strait of Hormuz, attributing high oil prices to their inaction.

This development is a significant shift in US-NATO relations, signaling a reevaluation of military commitments and priorities within the alliance.
