Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urgently requested the deployment of ballistic missile interceptors following a recent heavy Russian assault on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, resulting in a minimum of nine fatalities.
A series of ballistic missiles and drones launched by the Kremlin overnight on Saturday inflicted injuries on 33 individuals, as confirmed by authorities. This attack followed a previous strike by Moscow that claimed the lives of at least 10 people and left over 50 others wounded across Ukraine.
The intensified assaults led President Zelensky to emphasize the critical necessity of ballistic missile interceptors, warning that each night without them leads to further casualties. Russia’s defense ministry announced a significant strike targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics centers in Kyiv.
Significant damage was reported in the Solomianskyi District of Kyiv, where a five-story residential building was impacted by falling debris, resulting in a fire. Emergency responders safely evacuated 35 individuals from the upper levels of the structure, with two fatalities and eight injuries, including two children, reported by Ukraine’s state emergency service.
In the Darnytskyi District of Kyiv, seven individuals lost their lives, and 14 others sustained injuries due to fires and structural damage caused by the assault on homes, vehicles, and various buildings, as stated by emergency services.
Elsewhere in the city, emergency crews managed to extinguish a blaze in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, with reports of property damage in two additional districts.
Pleading for support from the US and Western allies, President Zelensky emphasized the urgent requirement for additional Patriot anti-ballistic missile defense systems to counter Russian missile threats. In his remarks, he highlighted the necessity of these interceptors in preventing further loss of life and implored for immediate action to halt the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

However, Trump seemed to backtrack on this commitment during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Maryland, suggesting that a final decision had not yet been made.

Additionally, a sanctioned Russian vessel, the Yanina, reportedly sank in the Black Sea following an attack by Ukraine, underscoring the ongoing impact on facilities supporting the war effort.
Furthermore, a Russian airstrike in Kherson, southern Ukraine, claimed one life and left five individuals wounded, according to local officials.
