The mother of a young British traveler who suffered severe injuries after being struck by a truck in Thailand has decided to discontinue his life support. Ethan Lacey, 20, was critically injured when he fell from a moving vehicle in Pattaya. Witnesses reported that the truck’s rear wheel ran over him, causing significant harm.
Following medical assessments, doctors informed Ethan’s parents that his condition was not expected to improve and that the only outcome would likely be a life confined to a bed. Subsequently, Ethan’s life support was removed on May 27, as confirmed by a GoFundMe campaign initiated by his grandmother.
Despite initial expectations, Ethan continues to breathe independently and has been moved to a palliative care unit. The family, after heartfelt discussions, decided to transition Ethan to palliative care due to the lack of quality of life prospects.
In efforts to bring Ethan back to the UK, the family is exploring options for medical repatriation, though the costs are substantial. Ethan’s parents rushed to his side in Thailand upon learning of his accident. He had been traveling in Bangkok before the incident occurred in Pattaya, where he was last seen at a nightclub.
Ethan sustained multiple brain hemorrhages and required medical interventions for a punctured lung. Despite efforts to transfer him to another hospital for further treatment, additional scans revealed no significant improvement in his condition. The family was faced with the difficult decision to discontinue life support based on medical advice.
Those willing to support Ethan’s journey back home can contribute to the family’s GoFundMe page.
