“WestJet Cabin Crew Union Reaches Tentative Agreement”

The labor union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the airline based in Calgary following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined that the deal entails an increase of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with the introduction of a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additionally, the agreement includes extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and various other provisions.

During the long holiday weekend, WestJet flights across a significant portion of Canada were grounded as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, commencing the job action early on Sunday. However, a tentative resolution was reached between the airline and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.

The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
