Tragedy struck as a couple on vacation fell to their deaths from a height of 65ft when a suspension bridge they were crossing collapsed during a leisurely hike.
The incident occurred on the island of Flores, part of Indonesia, where holidaymakers Astrid, 56, and Jürgen, 54, were exploring the scenic surroundings. The wooden suspension bridge, stretching 54 yards and leading to the popular Cunca Waterfall, gave way unexpectedly, causing the couple to plummet into the rocky river below.
The couple’s tour guide, who witnessed the tragic event, described how they were walking together, capturing the moment on camera, when the bridge suddenly collapsed with a loud cracking sound.
Following the collapse, images revealed the bridge missing several planks and severely damaged, indicating the force of the incident.
Despite only making it a short distance onto the bridge, the couple could not be saved, as authorities confirmed their tragic deaths at the scene.
Search and rescue teams faced challenges recovering the bodies due to the rugged terrain and slippery conditions near the river where the couple’s lifeless bodies were found.
Cunca Wulang waterfall, a popular tourist destination known for its breathtaking scenery, is located in a remote jungle area of Indonesia, requiring effort to access for visitors.
As safety inspections are conducted in the area, the site of the incident has been closed temporarily to prevent further accidents. Unfortunately, incidents of individuals falling from heights have occurred before in similar scenarios.
In a separate event last year, a well-known YouTube personality, Stacey Tourout, survived briefly after her vehicle careened off a mountain in Canada, resulting in a fatal crash. Despite rescue efforts, she succumbed to severe head injuries sustained during the accident.
Tragically, Stacey’s partner, Matthew Yeomans, lost his life instantly in the crash after being ejected from the vehicle, showing no signs of life upon discovery.
