Unidentified remains have been discovered during the search for a missing US soldier following Iranian assaults in Jordan, as announced by the US military on Sunday.
The attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones occurred on July 17, resulting in the confirmed deaths of two service members. One soldier was reported missing, but the US Central Command (CENTCOM) disclosed tonight (July 19) that unidentified remains have been located.
In a statement from CENTCOM, it was stated that “Yesterday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the deaths of two U.S. service members and the missing status of one in Jordan following an Iranian attack on July 17.”
“After an extensive search, unidentified remains were discovered by US military personnel at the site earlier today. The process of examining and verifying the remains is currently underway.”
CENTCOM also mentioned that a US service member lost their life in northern Iraq on July 18 during a mission involving the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian drone attack.
Another service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical care. CENTCOM expressed, “Additional information, including the identities of the missing and deceased service members, is being withheld out of consideration for the families during the notification process.”
Additionally, CENTCOM reported that four other American service members were evacuated for medical treatment to hospitals in Jordan. With the two fatalities announced later, the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began has reached at least 18.
