Temperatures in the UK are predicted to reach 32C soon according to advanced weather forecasts. After a scorching heatwave in May with record-breaking temperatures exceeding 35C, the mercury has now returned to normal levels. Thunderstorms and heavy rain have been observed across the country recently, but it seems that warm conditions will be returning shortly.
The ECMWF weather model indicates that temperatures will start climbing again from June 15, with highs of 29C expected in the south-east. The north-west could see temperatures rise to 28C, while central Scotland may experience highs of 24C.
On June 16, there is another anticipated surge in temperatures, with 32C forecasted in the south-east of England. The north of England could see highs of 29C-30C, and 31C is possible in the east of England and South Yorkshire.
Temperature anomaly maps for June 16 show that regions across England, Wales, and southern Scotland are expected to experience temperatures well above the seasonal average. The ECMWF model data suggests that up to 21 counties in England could see temperatures reach 30C or higher during this period.
While an official heatwave in the UK is declared when temperatures surpass the heatwave threshold for three consecutive days, the ECMWF model data does not currently indicate the likelihood of another official heatwave. The Met Office forecast for June 7 to 16 predicts “high pressure and more settled conditions” towards the middle of the month, particularly in southern areas.
Looking ahead to the remainder of June, the Met Office anticipates temperatures to be “above normal” for the most part, with the possibility of hot weather in southern regions. However, heavy showers and thunderstorms are also expected.
